Distance Swim Challenge

For those who attend training sessions and Wednesday lengths sessions in are invited to our distance swim challenge on Wednesday 21 November where swimmers will swim as many lengths as they can in 45 minutes.

This has proved to be an extremely popular event in previous years and spaces are limited so it is a first come first serve basis.  To secure a place for this event please email brechinbeaversl2s@gmail.com

For those unable to attend on Wednesday 21 November an additional session will be available on Monday 26th November during training times.

Rising Stars

Fun and games for Brechin Beavers!

We are holding our first Rising Stars fun gala on Wednesday 21 November which is planned specifically for children who attend our Learn to Swim and Learn to Train programme. Swimmers who go to the Wednesday session 5.00-6.45pm and lanes 1 and 5 at 6.45pm are invited to attend.

Due to high numbers of members who attend Wednesdays, we have split the members into three sections.

There will be a list available at desk for you to check which time your child should attend.

If your child attends Learn to Train in lanes 1 or 5, you can choose whether they wish to attend the Rising Stars gala or come along at 7 pm for Distance swims.

Everyone is warmly invited to come along and watch this event on poolside. It’s a night that promises to be full of fun and laughter.

Our final gala of the season!

A very respectable 4th place in tonight’s gala resulting in 4th place over all!

We are very proud of all our swimmers, young and old! The hard work they have all put in this year during training has been fantastic. The thousands of lengths, the continuous starts and turns, the times they didn’t want to swimming, it all adds up and shows in their performance.

Ellis Cairney and Aaron Reekie were awarded Swimmers of the Gala, both swimmers were outstanding!

A special thank you to Mark Steel who stepped in at the last minute to compete in the 100m butterfly for the 15’s & overs.

Aimee and Keir our brilliant 2018 Club Captains. Their support of the team this year has been fantastic! Thank you both for a superb season.

Debbie, Mark, Dan, Julie T, Julie A,Jennifer, Alana and Dayna  we are extremely grateful for all your hard work behind the scenes.  The roles you play are invaluable and you don’t hear it nearly enough, everyone really does appreciate everything you do. You spend an incredible amount of time each week doing thing people don’t see!

Our committee, poolside helpers, teachers, timekeepers, judges, mums & dads, granny & grandads and to all our supporters!  We thank you all!

Finally, Congratulations to League Champions Forfar Falcons and a huge well done to Montrose Seals , Blairgowrie Dolphins and Carnoustie Claymores on another great year of competition 🏆

Looking forward to next year already!

PB Gala

Our 2nd PB Gala of the year is on Thursday 20 September from 6pm and is open to all our members (including our Masters) who are able to swim 25m or 50m within their age group.

For those that don’t know, PB stands for Personal Best. No matter their ability, each swimmer eventually becomes obsessed with beating their times for each different
event and stroke.

When your child first starts, PB’s are not very important but the fixation with getting a PB soon takes hold especially if your child is keen! It is important that your child knows they can be successful without winning. If your child is aiming to beat their personal best (PB) and they accomplish that, then they are
successful regardless of what place they finish in.

This galas is the best way for your child to improve on their personal best times in a relaxed environment. It also shows them that all the training is worthwhile.

For our 9yrs and under relaxed rules will apply where are for all those 10yrs and over Fina Rules will be used.

Points will be awarded for personal best times, taking part and for first time swims.

✓ 3 points will be awarded for a personal best time of more than 1 second.
✓ 2 points will be awarded for a personal best time of less than 1 second.
✓ 1 point will be awarded for taking part.
✓ 2 points will be awarded for first time swimmers.

The new points system ensures this is a fair and fun way to encourage your child to progress.

Summer Splash

Firstly, a huge well done to everyone that competed in our inaugural Summer Splash. There were swimmers there that don’t normally participate so an especially big well done to them.

Those swimmers that did not win ribbons now have have a time to try and beat. It can be as much about a competition with yourself as a competition with others. It is worthwhile noting the times in a notebook or the log books for reference for the next gala/swim meet.

There were some disqualifications. And that is fine. It is all about learning. Please do ask the swimmer’s coach to find out why they were disqualified. This will help for the future. It might be something they never knew about. Regardless, the main thing is that they can learn from it.

Due to the low number of timekeepers, there was only one timekeeper per lane which made times less accurate for the swimmers and also caused a little bit of confusion with the positions a few times.

Please do consider timekeeping in future galas so that we can give the swimmers more accurate times.

Very well done to all those who won a ribbon. Times and placings will be posted for reference.
